WYSE Work Abroad Volunteer Project in Manchester, UK
A spirited group of volunteers braved a rainy morning during the recent World Youth Student and Educational Travel Conference in Manchester, UK, to contribute to the local community.
Led by members of the Salford City Rangers, and alongside representatives of the University of Salford, the volunteers went to work building ‘habitat piles’ along the Weaste Heritage and Ecology Trail for WYSE Work Abroad’s Volunteer Project. The event was the first in a series that will be held by WYSE Work Abroad during future conferences.
Volunteers were provided with an informational tour of the area and then bow saws, loppers and lump hammers in-hand, gamely undertook the task of turning fallen tree debris into new habitats for woodland creatures.
It was a successful morning of meeting new contacts and reconnecting with partners, and participants said they looked forward to hearing about the next project, set to take place at the Work Experience Travel Market and IAPA Annual Conference in Miami, USA, in March 2010.
