Australian Internships launches Volunteers Australia
WYSE Work Abroad member Australian Internships has founded a sister company, Volunteers Australia, and is proud to launch its Indigenous Volunteer Programs which provide opportunities to experience life as a volunteer in an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community.
Through daily work and interaction with community members, volunteers will gain insights into local culture and major issues facing communities. Participants will provide assistance and aid to the Indigenous population of Australia in areas such as healthcare, childcare, education, housing, arts & culture and environmental sustainability.
Indigenous Volunteer Programs are targeted at international travellers who are interested in authentic cultural exchange and in making a positive impact. The main focus is on the volunteer work, however Australian Internships / Volunteers Australia also recognises that in order to make a program like this successful other issues need to be addressed, for example cultural awareness. With cultural orientation sessions at the start of each volunteer program participants will be made aware of the rights, dignity and culture of the communities they are about to immerse themselves in.
Bookings are now open for intakes on 2nd August and 6th September 2010, and more information will be available on the soon to be launched www.volunteersaustralia.com.au.
